Project Overview
Location: Lover’s Walk, Cork City, Ireland
Date: April 2023
Equipment: Liebherr LTM 1110-5.1 with Fly Jib, Certified 3-Man Basket, Steel Outrigger Mats

Outcome
Despite the challenging access and setup constraints, the entire operation was executed safely, smoothly, and on schedule. The crane was successfully positioned, the jib installed with precision, and all lifts carried out without incident. This project showcased Kavanagh Crane Hire’s expertise in managing complex logistics, traffic control, and tight-access lifting operations, reinforcing our reputation as a reliable and solutions-focused crane hire partner.
Project Overview
In April 2023, Kavanagh Crane Hire was engaged to support essential maintenance works on a 70-metre electrical pile-on located at Lover’s Walk, Cork City. The project required safe man basket access for high-level maintenance operations on the structure.
Scope of Works
We supplied a Liebherr LTM 1110-5.1 mobile crane fitted with a fly jib, along with a certified 3-man man basket, to facilitate elevated access to the tower. The crane was positioned and rigged to provide stable, high-reach access for the maintenance crew, while maintaining compliance with all safety and site requirements.
Project Challenges
Tight Site Access & Traffic Management:
Access to the site was extremely restricted, involving a narrow road with a sharp turn. To bring the crane and Hiab truck onto the site safely, Kavanagh Crane Hire coordinated the temporary closure of the road from both sides. Our team escorted the crane and Hiab truck up to the site, ensuring full control of the route and providing room to safely manoeuvre the crane into position.
Fly Jib Setup in Confined Space:
Due to space limitations on site, we were unable to deploy the fly jib in the standard swing-out method. Instead, the jib was removed from the crane, placed on a Hiab truck, and then reversed into position in front of the crane after setup. This allowed for precise reassembly and safe deployment within the tight working area.
Overhead Clearance Constraints:
A narrow gap between existing trees left only minimal clearance to raise the crane’s boom and jib. This required precise pre-measurement and careful control during lifting operations to ensure safe passage through the gap.
Ground Pressure Management:
While ground conditions were generally stable, we used steel outrigger mats to distribute the crane’s load and keep ground bearing pressures within the specified safe limits.
