The Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 is a 230-tonne mobile crane mounted on a five-axle chassis, designed with the motto “Long, powerful and versatile!” Its primary lifting tool is a 75-meter telescopic boom. For additional reach and versatility, the crane can be equipped with a variety of lattice jibs, including an 11.5 to 20-meter double swing-away jib (K/NZK), a 4 to 39-meter powerful jib (S), and an 8 to 43-meter hydraulically adjustable fixed lattice jib (NZF). The maximum system length, combining the 75-meter boom with the 20-meter double swing-away jib and a 3 x 7-meter telescopic boom extension, reaches an impressive 111 meters, as indicated on the cover and detailed in the load charts. This makes it well-suited for demanding applications like the erection of wind turbines and industrial construction.
A key feature of the LTM 1230-5.1 is its powerful and flexible boom system, highlighted by the “Strong Jib” (Starke Spitze), which is a 4 to 39-meter jib that provides a strong system for steep working positions. The crane is equipped with several advanced technologies to enhance safety and efficiency. The VarioBase® variable support base allows each outrigger to be extended to individual lengths, enabling safe operation in constricted working conditions. The VarioBallast® system provides a choice between two counterweight radii—4.83 meters with 72 tonnes or 5.73 meters with the same weight—allowing for higher lifting capacities and greater economy for working with a large radius, and a smaller footprint for a smaller radius. The crane is powered by a single 6-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine producing 400 kW (544 PS). It also features ECOmode, which automatically disengages the pump drive when idling to reduce fuel consumption and noise. The LTM 1230-5.1 also comes with the WindSpeed load charts, which provide different lifting capacities based on maximum permissible wind speeds.
For transport, the crane is optimized for efficient road travel and quick setup. Its total counterweight of 72 tonnes is made up of ballast plates that are designed for fast ballasting, with 52 tonnes as the basic counterweight. The brochure details various on-road driving configurations with axle loads of up to 12 tonnes per axle, as well as a jobsite driving mode at up to 82 tonnes. The crane’s safety is managed by the LICCON2 safe load indicator system. The brochure includes detailed load charts for all configurations, including the T (telescopic boom), TK/TNZK (swing-away jib), TVK/TVNZK (swing-away jib with boom extension), TS (strong jib with telescopic boom extension), and TNZF (hydraulically adjustable fixed lattice jib) systems, providing comprehensive data for the crane’s operation. The LTM 1230-5.1 is a powerful, versatile, and technologically advanced crane designed for the most demanding lifting tasks.
