The Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 is a 500-tonne class mobile crane mounted on an eight-axle carrier, designed for a wide range of heavy lifting applications. Its primary lifting tool is a 50-meter telescopic boom, which can be extended to an 84-meter variant. For additional reach, the crane can be equipped with a comprehensive selection of lattice jibs, including fixed lattice fly jibs from 14 to 63 meters and luffing lattice jibs from 21 to 91 meters. The brochure details numerous boom and jib combinations, such as the TVN (luffing lattice jib with boom extension) and the TY3N (luffing lattice jib with a guyed telescopic boom). The maximum system length can reach up to 152 meters, as illustrated in the load charts for the TVY3N configuration, making it highly capable for demanding jobs like wind turbine erection and industrial construction.

To maximize lifting capacity and versatility, the LTM 1500-8.1 is equipped with several advanced systems. The Y-type guying system (Y) can be attached to the telescopic boom to significantly increase lifting capacities. This guying can be further enhanced with a Spacer (S) for the luffing lattice jib or an Eccentric (E) for the fixed lattice jib, both of which provide additional capacity gains. The crane also features a hydraulically variable lattice fly jib (NZF) that can be adjusted under load from 0° to 40°. Its total counterweight is 135 tonnes, which can be increased to 165 tonnes with two additional 15-tonne slabs, a requirement for operating with the guyed telescopic boom. The carrier is powered by an 8-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine producing 500 kW (680 HP), while the superstructure has its own 6-cylinder engine with 240 kW (326 HP) for crane operations.

The LTM 1500-8.1 is engineered for efficient transport and setup. Its eight-axle chassis features all-wheel steering and hydropneumatic suspension, ensuring excellent on-road driving characteristics and maneuverability on the job site. The crane’s design includes a 14-meter lattice boom extension to prolong the 50-meter telescopic boom when using lattice jibs. For transport, the crane can be configured to comply with various weight regulations, as shown by the axle load diagrams. The use of the rapid-cycle telescoping system TELEMATIK allows all telescopic sections to be extended individually and quickly. The load charts included in the brochure provide extensive data for all configurations, and the crane’s safety is managed by the LICCON safe load indicator system, ensuring reliable operation across its full range of capabilities.
